Dear Reader,

There is someone in your life you keep forgiving based on a version of them that no longer walks through the door.

You remember the night they showed up fully. The conversation where they were so present it caught you off guard. The time they said the thing that made you think, there she is, or there he is — that is who they really are underneath all of it. And you bookmarked that moment. You kept it close. So every time they come back half-present, dismissive, or careless with something that matters to you, you reach for that memory like a receipt. Proof that the real version exists. Proof that your patience is not wasted.

I did this for a long time. I held onto one honest conversation, one weekend where everything felt easy, one moment of real tenderness, and I used it to cover months of inconsistency. I told myself I knew who they really were. That I could see past the surface to the good underneath. What I was actually doing was filling in the gap between who they kept being and who I needed them to be, and calling it love.

What you are running is a loan. Every time they show up at half of who they were, and you cover the difference from memory, you are extending them credit. You are pulling from your own reserves to finance a version of them that has not shown up in weeks, maybe months. And the balance never comes back. It does not get repaid in one good conversation or one thoughtful gesture that finally arrives after you asked for it three times. It just rolls over. You keep lending. They keep drawing. And you call it loyalty because that is a word you can live inside without having to feel the loss underneath it.

I Almost Threw This Away

I know how it sounds:

  • A secret recording.

  • An accountant who broke an oath.

  • Results without meditation or effort.

I would have closed the tab too.

Then I pressed play.

And within 30 seconds, something happened in my chest that I couldn’t explain.

This isn’t a guided meditation.

Nobody tells you to "breathe deeply" or "open your chakras."

You press play.
You close your eyes.

And something happens in your chest within 30 seconds.

Goosebumps.
A wave of calm.
A physical response that has nothing to do with belief.

The man who shared this says the biggest skeptics in his circle had the strongest reactions.

I was one of them.

P.S. The man who shared this is a retired accountant from Ohio.

No course. No coaching program.

It's a single audio track.

You press play and close your eyes. That's the whole thing.

The old story says that real love means believing in someone's best self even when it is nowhere in sight. That patience is devotion. That holding space is what a good woman does. But there is a line between holding space for someone who is doing their own work and quietly bankrolling someone who is not. One is love. The other is a loan they never agreed to repay — and that you keep pretending is not costing you anything.

The reason this pattern runs you is simple. Stopping the loan means feeling the gap. The gap between who they are and who you needed them to be. And that gap is not anger. It is grief. The ego will keep lending forever to avoid sitting in that grief, because as long as you are still extending credit, you do not have to admit the version you are loyal to may not be coming back.

Today, think of the person you keep excusing. Ask yourself one clean question: when was the last time they showed up as the version I keep defending, without being asked, without being reminded, without me having to set the stage for it? If the answer is not recent, not specific, you do not have to confront them. You do not have to make a decision. Just stop rounding up. Let the number sit where it actually is. That honesty alone changes the way you carry this, because you stop spending energy maintaining a story that the math no longer supports.

This is your magnetic mindset: I do not lend my loyalty to someone's highlight reel. I love people as they keep showing up, not as they showed up once. And when the balance has not been repaid in a long time, I stop pretending it is not a loss.

Pebble tower

A woman who stops extending that loan does not become cold. She becomes honest. She stops pouring into a memory and starts paying attention to what is actually standing in front of her. And the people who belong in her life, the ones who show up without being financed, they feel the difference. They find her. Not because she closed her heart, but because she finally stopped spending it on a debt someone else was never going to honor.

Something to take with you today: Stop rounding up for people who keep showing you the real number.
